But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: (1Peter 2:9)

What difference can one church plant make?

More than a year ago, Victoria moved to Spain. She looked around and asked people but couldn’t find an evangelical church in Cambrils. Unfortunately that’s not surprising nor uncommon since only 1% of Spain’s population is evangelical Christian. There are approximately only 140 AG churches plus 30 preaching points in the entire country of 46 million people! It is a huge understatement to say that churches are not on every corner in Europe.

It turned out well for Victoria, however. One day she noticed a man walking down the street with a Bible under his arm and she stopped him. “Are you a Christian?” she asked. Simon, one of our members, told Victoria that we were meeting in a local hotel (before we found the rental building) and she began faithfully attending with her 4-year-old grandson. Three weeks ago, her wayward daughter visited on a Sunday morning, recommitted her life to the Lord and has decided that she wants to start the one-on-one discipleship course.

What difference can one church plant make?

The Lord directed us to move to Cambrils slightly more than 2 years ago and with only 2 people we began a mid-week Bible study. This past Sunday morning we were nearly 50 adults present for worship service (and 7 children in Sunday School)! Apart from regular attenders, there were visitors from the Ukraine, Bolivia, Ecuador, Germany and even a couple on summer vacation from Switzerland. Each one of these visitors has their ethnic circle of friends and relatives. As the Good News is proclaimed, the message and influence of God’s love and forgiveness reaches the uttermost parts of the earth.

When we leave on furlough in 7 weeks, we leave behind a body of believers, a spiritual family, a people separated from the surrounding pleasure-seeking and consumerist mindset. They will continue to make a difference here as they shine the light of the gospel in this place.

Please pray for God’s protection and continued grace for the Cambrils church plant during this time of transition. Thank you for your prayers, generosity and love.

In His Service,
Steve and Susan
